The FICMES delegates to the World Foundry Organization (WFO) 2020 Congress

The Foundry Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (FICMES) represents China,delegates to the World Foundry Organization (WFO) 2020 Congress.


The Congress of the Member states of the World Foundry Organization (WFO) was successfully held by video conference at 18:00 Beijing time on October 20, 2020. Thirty-six delegates from 21 member countries participated in the conference. The official representative of China was FICMES (Foundry Branch of China Society of Mechanical Engineering).


The World Foundry Organization has working committees on casting metal matrix Composites, die casting, iron based Materials, moulding Materials, non-ferroalloy and training and career development. The meeting unveiled plans to set up three more committees to study the impact of electric cars on the foundry industry, waste sand recycling and media cooperation.


After evaluating the 2018-2020 WFO strategic Plan, the current congress of Member States proposed six strategic goals for 2021-2023: to bring greater value to member units through further coordination and communication between member units, as well as between WFO and member units; Support and facilitate the development of member units and industries through technology, education and environmental/health/safety resources; Provide contact and feedback opportunities to industry stakeholders; Contribute to project success by providing guidance and support to the working Committee and disseminate through member units; Promote the use of castings worldwide; Ensure the sustainable and efficient development of the organization.


In order to make its members understand the global situation of the foundry industry and provide value for local foundry enterprises, the World Foundry Organization has invited its members to participate in the development of the WFO Global Foundry Report 2020. The report includes 27 reports, some experts' unique insights into the global foundry industry, and research data and trends in foundry technology.


Due to COVID-19, the World Foundry Summit, originally scheduled for 18-19 May 2020 in New York, USA, will now be postponed until late 2021 or 2022. In addition, the WFO has announced important meetings and venues in recent years: The WFO Technical Forum World Foundry Organization Technical Forum (Turkey, 2021; Delhi, 2023), World Foundry Congress World Foundry Congress (Pusan, Korea, 2022; China, 2024).

The Foundry Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (FICMES) formally joined WFO on behalf of China in 1978, organized Chinese Foundry industry experts and scholars to actively participate in WFO activities, and organized and held the World Foundry Congress in China twice.According to WFO Executive Committee's arrangement in 2012, secretariats of Die Casting Technical Committee, Ferrous Metals
Technical Committee, Non-ferrous alloys Technical Committee and Moulding Materials Technical Committee are located at FICMES
to organize and carry out international academic exchange activities.

In 2013, Mr. Lou Yanchun, president of Casting Branch of China Society of Mechanical Engineering, was elected as a member of WFO Executive Committee, playing an important role in WFO on behalf of China. The last WFO Congress was held in Slovenia on September 20, 2019. Lou Yanchun, Director-general of the WFO was elected as the Vice President of the WFO in 2020/2021, further enhancing China's status and influence in the WFO.
